On 8 June 2024, the Pride Parade a.k.a. Rainbow Parade will march around Vienna’s Ringstrasse for the 28th time.
The demonstration marks the end of Vienna Pride and makes a loud statement for the rights, acceptance and visibility of LGBTIQ people in Austria, Europe and the world. The closing rally will take place on the Rathausplatz in Vienna.
Details about the Rainbow Parade can be found at Pride Parade.
As part of Vienna Pride, 26-year-old photographer Vlad Dobre invites you to the photo exhibition and book presentation of “Vienna Night Creatures” at Galerie Soldo on June 6th from 5:00 PM.
The “Vienna Night Creatures” exhibition portrays the protagonists of Viennese nightlife, who express their creativity through extravagant costumes, elaborate performances, and confident demeanors. The eponymous book features photographs and texts about and from the Viennese nightlife, showcasing drag queens, fashion designers, burlesque dancers, and many more from the vibrant and queer Viennese scene.
These “Creatures” come alive at night to celebrate their individuality. Images ranging from underground drag parties, dinner times with old hippies, to glamorous Life Ball events capture the energy and diversity of Vienna’s creative scene. The resulting pictures depict the city and its extravagant characters, thus testifying to Vienna as a progressive European metropolis full of joie de vivre.
The photographer and artist will be present on June 6th to sign his first book. Mario Soldo, as a creative gallerist, will stage a fashion show and performance featuring the personalities portrayed in the book and the exhibition.
Vienna Pride and the LGBTIQ hiking group of the sports club Aufschlag warmly invite you to a city hike in Vienna.
The adventure begins on Saturday, 25 May at 10:30 at the bus station for line 35A Neustift/Agnesgasse. There, we’ll meet up with Andrea and Matthias who will be guiding the tour.
From the bus station, we set off on a n about 10-kilometer-long moderate circuit passing by the Gasthaus zum Agnesbrünnl, rest stop Jägerwiese, Hermannskogel with its Habsburg watchtower, through picturesque vineyards and over the Salmannsdorfer Höhe back to the starting point. The tour is set on easy-to-walk paths and thus requires a good basic fitness level, but no special skills.
Please wear sturdy shoes with good soles and comfortable clothing suitable for the weather. Also bring some snacks and drinks. We plan to make one or two stops along the way (e.g. Jägerwiese, Häuserl am Roan or Häuserl am Stoan), but the size of the group will determine the exact details on the day.
The hike will not take place in the event of hurricane-like storms or continuous rain. Participant join at their own risk. No liability for any damage to persons or property.

When Lionel was 14 years old, he had a dream: In his diary, he revealed his ambition to follow in Britney Spears’ footsteps and become a pop star. However, on his journey to sing in the world’s great stadiums, he encountered several obstacles: His self-diagnosed impostor syndrome, his imagined singing talent, and above all: his mother.
Lionel’s conservative Japanese mother plays a prominent role in his cabaret debut, as she was the one who forbade him from taking singing lessons, despite being a professionally trained operetta singer herself. Instead, she enrolled him in the local music school and convinced him to learn the flute. She also expected Lionel to pursue a diplomatic career, as the highest commandment for a Japanese child is to engage in an honorable profession. Naturally, Lionel keeps it a secret from his mother that during his queer self-discovery, he realizes he would rather become a go-go boy.
In his cabaret debut, Lionel Koller, aka Wurstaufschnitt, provides intimate insights into his youth. He employs a healthy dose of self-irony, several dance routines, and political role-playing.

In times of global epidemics, certain social groups often face stigmatisation. One-sided reporting and scaremongering fuel hatred, exclusion, and prejudices against the “others.” Inspired by Gideon Mendel’s photobook “The Ward,” Matteo Haitzmann explores the survival strategies of the LGBTIQ movement during the AIDS crisis of the 1980s and 1990s in “Those We Lost“.
Starting from the question of how the courage and solidarity of a past movement can still provide impulses in the fight for social justice today, this performative solo concert pays tribute to the deceased while seeking inspiration for the living. Video and audio recordings from that era interact with new compositions that give a contemporary voice to the struggle for pride and dignity during times of crisis. “Those We Lost” is both a bow and a battle cry, as much a thank you as it is a call to action.
To celebrate Pride Month, the live performance of “Those We Lost” will be enhanced by a string quartet. An artist talk will follow the performance.
